Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the anatomy of the intercostal nerves, their branches, and the fascial planes of the chest wall for effective clinical application
  • Demonstrate proper probe placement and image optimization techniques to accurately visualize chest wall structures
  • Perform image acquisition and identify relevant sonoanatomy of the following chest wall blocks: • Serratus anterior plane block (superficial and deep approaches) • Interpectoral (PECS 1) and pectoserratus (PECS 2) blocks • Parasternal blocks (superficial and deep approaches) • Thoracic paravertebral, intertransverse process, and erector spinae plane blocks • Thoracic spine sonoanatomy and ultrasound-assisted approaches for successful thoracic epidural placement
  • Identify the specific indications and contraindications for each regional anesthesia technique and select the most appropriate chest wall block(s) for individual patient needs
